Background
Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Jockey Club Elderly Support Project under the New Normal is a 18-month project from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2022 serving the elders living in the Private Residential Care Homes for the Elderly (PRCHE) in Shamshuipo district.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the lives of residents living in PRCHE have been greatly affected. The project is expected to help these residents adapt to and to better live with the “New Normal” under the pandemic by providing systematic support through activities and use of technology.
Objectives
The goal of this project is to help elders living in PRCHE to adjust to the new normal and to improve their quality of life during and after the pandemic with the following objectives:
- To enhance elders’ physical, cognitive and psychological fitness through a series of exercises.
- To help elders reconnect to their networks and the society by using technology.
- To equip staff of PRCHE with knowledge and skills to support elders effectively under the new normal.

Service Content
- Outreaching support service provided by JOY Ambassadors, including:
- fitness exercise and board games to promote elders’ self-efficacy, physical, cognitive and psychological wellbeing;
- use of tele means to connect elders with their families, friends and communities;
- use of VR technology to connect elders with the society
- Capacity building programmes for staff of PRCHE to enhance their ability to help elders live under the “new normal”
