Introduction
Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Jockey Club Long COVID Support Services for Elderly Homes is a 12-month project from September 15, 2022 to September 14, 2023 serving the elders living in the Private Residential Care Homes for the Elderly (PRCHE) in Shamshuipo district.
The majority of PRCHE is frail with multiple pre-existing chronic diseases, and appears to be taking longer time to recover from “Long COVID”. The project is to facilitate rehabilitation and wellbeing of elderly residents who are suffering from “Long COVID” through multidimensional training. Moreover, the project provides physical wellness and mental wellbeing support service to elderly residents affected by the pandemic in PRCHE.
Objectives
The project aims to minimise the impact of “Long COVID” symptoms to the daily life of the elders living in PRCHE. It also provides physical and mental health support service to the residents of PRCHE affected by the pandemic.
- To enhance physical and cognitive fitness of elders with “Long COVID” symptoms through rehabilitation and mental health training.
- To provide physical wellness and mental wellbeing support to residents affected by the pandemic through psychosocial activities.
- To equip staff of PRCHE with knowledge and skills to provide better care for residents with “Long COVID” symptoms.

Service Content
- Outreaching service provided by “Health Buddy” and Social Worker includes:
- Rehabilitation training and positive psychology programme to minimise the impact of “Long COVID” symptoms to daily life of elders;
- Rehabilitation, mental and social activities to enhance elders’ self-efficacy, physical, cognitive and psychological wellbeing.
- Capacity building programmes are provided for staff of PRCHE to increase their awareness of medical, nutrition and rehabilitation needs of elders, so that they may provide better care for recovered residents.
