Child-Friendly Award Scheme 2024-2025

Background

The Child-Friendly Cities initiative, led by the United Nations, aims to unite governments and various stakeholders—including non-governmental organisation, business, and media—to collaboratively build child-friendly cities.

In response to the feedback gathered from 1,531 children across 14 schools, we are excited to launch a Territory-wide Child-Friendly Award Scheme. This scheme encourages restaurants to incorporate child-friendly elements in their environments, including tableware and staff attitudes, ensuring that dining experiences for children are both safe and enjoyable.

Restaurant Application Requirements

Restaurants wishing to join the Child-Friendly Award Scheme must meet at least three of the following criteria:

  1. Staff treat children kindly.
  2. Provide a safe environment.
  3. Offer children's tableware or appropriate dining furniture.
  4. Serve healthy children's meals.
  5. Provide children's menus that include pictures.
  6. Offer entertaining items for children or create engaging environmental settings.
