Introduction

On Wah Day Activity Centre (OWDAC) was established in March 2003. It is located in Lok Wah Estate, serving moderate to severely intellectual disability persons aged 15 and above in Kwun Tong, Lam Tin, Ngau Tau Kok, Tseung Kwan O, and Sai Kung. Besides, it operates an Extended Care Programme, which provides a continuum of care to frail or aged service users in a familiar environment.

 

 

Service Mission

With "client-centred" as our goal, we are committed to promoting the holistic development of persons with intellectual disability, improving their quality of life, as well as establishing an inclusive community.

 

 

Service Objectives

  1. Provide quality service and training so that persons with intellectual disability can have holistic development in different aspects, including work, home care, self-care, leisure and community living. Meet their physical, social and emotional needs to enhance their quality of life.
  2. Provide various experiential opportunities to broaden the horizons of users, let them enjoy an abundant life.
  3. Unite family power to face challenges together, and promote growth among family members.
  4. Promote mutual help, encourage mutual respect and appreciation, and promote social inclusion in the community.

 

Service Targets

  • Aged 15 or above with low moderate to severe grade of intellectual disability
  • Free from acute medical conditions or non-bedridden patients
  • No aggressive or violent behaviour
  • Physically healthy without infectious disease

 

Services Content

Centre-based Training Programmes

  • OWDAC provides comprehensive assessments to all trainees, and sets up a series of services to satisfy individual needs holistically.
  • Provides life skills training (including simple work skills, domestic skills, self-care skills, leisure and community living skills) 
  • Arrangement of mid-day meals
  • Provision of nursing and health care
  • Organises recreational and physical activities
  • Individual and family counselling
  • Occupational therapy

 

  1. Day Activity Centre
    Provides day care and training in daily living skills and simple work skills to persons with intellectual disability and prepares them for better integration into the community or transition to other forms of service or care.

  2. Day Respite Service
    Provides temporary care to persons with intellectual disability in the community, so as to relieve the caring stress of family members or relatives.

  3. Extended Care Programme
    For trainees who could no longer benefit from prolonged or intensive training due to ageing or deterioration of health condition, the Extended Care Programme is being operated to provide simple rehabilitation training as well as social, leisure and developmental activities.

 

Supportive Service

  1. Family Supportive Service
    • Organises family activities;
    • Conducts supportive groups and training for family members.

  2. Community Education
    • Conducts volunteer training;
    • Organises volunteer services;
    • Organises community activities and exhibitions to promote social inclusion.

 

Application

  1. Day Activity Centre
    • Service can be applied through social workers from social service units to the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services (CRSRehab) of the Social Welfare Department. 
    • Applicants are required to undergo a designated medical examination.

  2. Day Respite Service
    • Application can be made by parents / carers directly or via social workers of medical social services units, integrated family services centres, special schools or rehabilitation service units; and
    • Applicants should complete a Declaration Form on Health Conditions for Admission to Day Respite Service and the service unit may further request the applicant to have a medical examination if necessary.

  3. Extended Care Programme
    • 50 years old or above and receiving our DAC service; and
    • Assessed by the Standardised Assessment for Residential Services for People with
    • Disabilities to be eligible for HSMH or C&A/SD service;
    • Eligible participants from Day Activity Centre would be recommended by the Centre;
    • Service users who intend to apply for extended care services can also contact our social workers directly. 

 

Service Termination

Trainees and his/her family/guardian may contact our social worker if they would like to withdraw from the service. Concerning the needs of the clients,  the Centre can arrange for the termination of service. 

Besides, the Centre would discuss with family/guardian on transferring trainees to more suitable services under the following conditions:

  1. The behaviours of trainees create danger to other service users or staff continuously;
  2. The services of the Centre no longer match with the needs of the trainees.
