Professional Support Services for the Secondary School Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
Beliefs and Objectives
- To foster the positive growth of SEN students by enhancing their skills and confidence in areas such as learning, emotional regulation, self-discipline, interpersonal relationships, and career planning.
- To foster inclusivity and a harmonious environment in the school.
- To enhance the understanding of teachers and parents regarding SEN students, and to facilitate effective teaching and cooperation between home and school.
Service Contents
1. Stationing Mode
In stationing mode, the social worker will be stationed at the school either full time or part time, in order to provide prompt and comprehensive support to SEN students, as well as to offer appropriate assistance to teachers and parents.
- To assist in developing and implementing the annual plan to support SEN students
- To provide individual coaching/ counselling, group training and other activities to students
- To assist in developing and implementing Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) and establish the "Student Support Register"
- To organise activities such as inclusion carnivals, inclusion ambassadors, and peer support programs to promote a culture of inclusivity on campus
- To offer individual and family counseling, as well as group activities to parents
- To provide immediate support to teachers in handling students' emotional and behavioural issues
- To organise teacher training programs related to special educational needs
2. Visiting Mode
By customising activities according to the requirements of schools, parents and students, our objective is to facilitate the growth and development of SEN students.
Student Groups/Activities
- To enhance social skills: Training in social skills and social thinking, peer counselor support programs
- To improve learning performance: Training in study skills
- To ignite motivation to learn: Activities to boost self-confidence, career planning
- To develop self-management skills: Training in emotional and behavioural management, attention span, and executive skills
- To nurture multiple intelligence: Newly emerging sports, adventure-based training/ activities, volunteer services, and multi-art activities
Parent Workshops/Groups
- Workshops to understand the special educational needs of adolescents
- Workshops to facilitate parenting, parent-child relationship and communication
- Parents' mutual support groups
School-Wide Activities
- Inclusive carnival: Promoting understanding of different special educational needs.
- School talk: Fostering a harmonious atmosphere within the school.
Teacher Support
- Workshops to understand the needs of students with special educational needs.
