Shamshuipo Day Care Centre for the Elderly

 

Introduction

"Shamshuipo Day Care Centre for the Elderly" (SSPDE), formerly known as "Lotus Day Care Centre for the Elderly", was established in 2002 to provide services in So Uk Estate. Upon the redevelopment of So Uk Estate in 2012, the centre was moved to the current service premises in Un Chau Estate. 

 

By adopting the principles of "continuum care" and "community care", and with "client-centre" as the service goal, we aim at enabling frail seniors to maintain an optimal level of functioning by day care services to meet the nursing, rehabilitation and social needs, thereby improving their quality of life. We also provide support to caregivers of the seniors to enhance their confidence, ability in performing care duties and relieving their stress.

 

 

Service Target

People living in Shamshuipo district and meet the following criteria: 

  • aged 60 or above;
  • being disabled and frail to the extent that needs personal care and nursing care;
  • stable medical condition without infectious disease;
  • suitable in group lives, no aggressive or violent behaviour;
  • family members of the service users are unable to provide full-time care to the service user during day time;
  • non-bedridden patients; 
  • has been assessed by the Standardized Care Need Assessment Mechanism for the Elderly Service of Social Welfare Department.

Withdrawal

  • Service users can apply for exit from our service in writing at least one month before the withdrawal.

 

Service contents

  • Personal care
    Provide daily personal care, such as feeding and bathing, etc.
  • Nursing Care 
    Provide basic and special nursing care, including health consultations, regular health checks and health talks, etc. by professional nurses.
  • Restorative and Maintenance Rehabilitation Exercises
    Service users will be guided by physiotherapists and occupational therapists to do rehabilitation exercises.
  • Counselling Service
    Provide emotional support and referral services to service users as well as their carers by professional social workers.
  • Social and Developmental Activities/Groups
    Different kinds of activities and groups will be organised to develop potentials of the service users.
  • Transportation Service 
    Rehabus service is provided to enable service users to travel from the pick-up spots to the centre and vice versa.
  • Meal Services
    Balanced meals are provided for service users daily. Special diets will be given according to service users' health conditions.
  • Carer Support Service
    Resources corners have been established for carers. A wide variety of supportive services will also be provided to enhance carers' confidence and abilities.
  • Extended Hours Service
    The centre provides service for needy users from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays.

 

Service Mode

  • Full Time : Attend Day Care Centre's Services for 4 days or more in a week
  • Part Time: Attend Day Care Centre's Services for 1-3 days in a week

 

Fees and Chargers

  • Fees will be charged according to the guidelines set by the Social Welfare Department.

 

Day Respite Service for the Elderly

Our centre provides short-term or temporary day care service for frail senior persons to allow the carers to take rest in times of need, so as to enable them to continue taking up the carers' duties.  Details are as follows:

 

Application Procedure:

Service users or their carers can apply either by phone or in person to our centre during our office hour. Besides, referrals from Social Service Organisations or other medical institutions are also accepted. If there is an urgent need, service can be provided as soon as possible on the date of the application.

 

Withdrawal:

Service users should inform us in writing at least 7 days before the withdrawal.

 

Fees charging:

In accordance with the standard service charge as stipulated by the Social Welfare Department.

Extended Service Hours

According to the needs of service users, extended service hours can be provided from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., from Mondays to Saturdays. Needy users may contact our staff for arrangement of extended service.
